Santa Monica is a beachfront city in western Los Angeles County. The city is named after the Christian saint, Monica. Situated on Santa Monica Bay, it is bordered on three sides by the city of Los Angeles – Pacific Palisades to the north, Brentwood on the northeast, West Los Angeles and Mar Vista on the east, and Venice on the southeast. Many beautiful homes (of all styles) are found throughout the city, as this is one of the most highly sought after areas in Los Angeles. The Downtown District is the home of the Third Street Promenade, a major outdoor pedestrian-only shopping and dining district that stretches for three blocks. With a gorgeous year round climate, Santa Monica is in very close proximity to the famed Santa Monica Pier and also many beaches. The city has also been recognized for being extremely "bicycle friendly." The Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District provides public education at the elementary and secondary levels. There are also great private schools to choose from within the area.
